The picture is part of the Rector's Gallery.
In 1778, permission was granted at the very highest level to hang portraits of deserving personalities in a university lecture hall. Based on this authorization, the painting in question arrived at the university the following year. All ten pictures donated at that time were installed in the lecture hall juris ecclesiastici of the New University Building (today the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna, Dr.-Ignaz-Seipel-Platz 2 ).
